Tam Kung Temple (Yen Wo Society)

Tam Kung Temple, Canada’s oldest Chinese temple, is a recognized heritage site open to the public and is located on the 4th floor of the Yen Wo Society Building in Victoria’s Chinatown. The temple is one of the foundations of Chinese heritage and significant in Canada’s history – and for more than a century, Yen Wo Society has been responsible for its preservation and maintenance.
The Temple building at 1713 Government Street is over one hundred years old and requires seismic upgrading and structural repairs to its roof and parapet. The Society is requesting your support in our fundraising effort to restore the Temple building. Just as it did for the Chinese pioneers who traveled to British Columbia from the middle of the 19th century onward, the Temple continues to offer a space for spiritual growth, cultural unity, and honouring ancestors. Our goal is to preserve the past and strengthen our communities, while providing guidance and inspiration for future generations.
