Trees of Remembrance Documentary Project

Date:
Wednesday, October 27, 2021

Dedicated to the late Mr. Ray Travers who was a champion of Memorial Avenue for several years and led planning efforts to rededicate and protect the Shelbourne trees, the 22-minute documentary commenorates this living legacy from the First World War.

October 2, 2021, marks the 100th anniversary of the planting of the first London Plane tree along Memorial Avenue, what we know as Shelbourne Street. Running from Mount Douglas to Bay Street, London Plane trees were planted to commemorate residents from Greater Victoria killed in the First World War and Boer War. Over the years, the trees of remembrance have been rededicated to commemorate the fallen from all wars.

The Saanich Legacy Foundation has been pleased to contibute to providing funding for the closed captioning and promotion of this film.
